MTV Dance

MTVS001 Hip Hop Groove
Evolved out of street and break dancing moves. A funky dance class taught to the latest funk, rap and R & B music. It is characterized by its vigorous athletics and bouncy style. This is a dance programme that include basic movement control technique to the latest popular music with a variety of rhythms It emphasizes the coordination of arm patterns, body movements with simple dance steps.

MTVS002 Street Rhythms & Jam
Students will be taught the basics of various dance discipline such as Jazz and Hip Hop. Students will also be taught key performance skills such as lines, projection, energy, stage usage and awareness and audience awareness. Students will then be challenged to combine and apply what they have learnt in both disciplines in a dance performance.

MTVS003 Jpop Groove
A programme where students will learn how to dance hip hop to the latest J-pop music. Students will learn both the old school street funk and new school hip hop styles and incorporate it into J-pop songs.

MTVS004 Kpop Groove
A new school street style dance that is becoming increasingly popular, K-pop Groove combines hip hop moves with K-pop music. Students will learn how to dance the latest funky hip hop moves as well as funk dance styles e.g.. popping to the latest K-pop music.

MTVS005 Popping & Locking
A combination of 2 funk style dances into a brand new course, students will learn about muscle control and balance as well as mime style movements and facial expressions. A fun and funky style that will encourage creativity and expression.

MTVS006 Lyrical Hip Hop
Lyrical hip-hop is a more fluid and interpretive version of hip-hop most often danced to slower rap music or R&B music. It focuses more on choreography and performance. Students will learn that the dance movements have to tell a story to the lyrics of a song.

 

MTVS007 Lyrical Jazz
Lyrical Jazz is a blend of ballet and jazz styles that creates a self expression performed to popular contemporary music. It is a slower style that focuses on more on technique
as well as emotional expression and often reflects the lyrics of the song being danced to. In lyrical dance the soft and flowing movements are often used to demonstrate the portrayal of a character. Students will be able to gain fluidity of movement, grace, control and an avenue for individual expression.

Modern Dance

MDS001 Stomp It! / CreativeRhythm
Students will be introduced to the rhythmic world of percussions and learn not only how to create it but also to apply it and fuse it with dance. Students will explore the creation of percussive movements through using their bodies and through the use of recycled materials. Students will then be introduced to a variety of dance styles such as jazz and hip hop and learn how to incorporate percussive movements into the dance to create a greater impact.

MDS002 Flag It!
A specially designed programme to introduce students to the art of flag twirling. Students will also be exposed to simple contemporary dance. Coupling the two, students will go through a full body workout through the specially choreographed movement to lead to a dance performance.

 

MDS003 Tambourine Dance
An engaging and fun-filled experience, the programme incorporates the instrumentation of tambourine to students to a variety of dance like Folk, cultural, contemporary and Jazz. Through a musical instrument that students are familiar with, they will be taught control techniques and simple rhythm in this programme. This helps them coordinate their rhythm arm pattern while playing the tambourine with dance steps

MDS004 Creative Movement
This programme aims to inculcate in students an appreciation of their own body’s ability to perform different movements. Students will be encouraged to use their own imagination and creativity in coming up with the required movements using their bodies or when working with partners. Through the class, students will learn to appreciate the different aspects of movement and dance.

MDS005 Light, Sound, Movement
Students will be taught the basics of modern dance. They will be taught key performance concepts, skills and techniques such as lines, projection, energy, stage usage and awareness and audience awareness, with the focus on looking confident and skilled on stage. Students will also learn how to create and incorporate audio-visual tools and effects into their dancing thereby increasing the impact of their dance.Students will then be given the opportunity to combine and apply what they’ve learnt in both disciplines in a dance performance at the end of the course, showcasing their talent and abilities.

MDS006 Dance Dramatic
Students will be taught the basics of modern/ contemporary dance. They will be taught key performance concepts, skills and techniques such as lines, projection, energy, stage usage and awareness and audience awareness, with the focus on looking confident and skilled on stage. Students will also be taught basic acting techniques, especially non-verbal acting techniques that focuses on the use of facial expressions and body movements/ actions to convey an emotion or message. Students will then be given the opportunity to combine and apply what they’ve learnt in both disciplines in a dance performance at the end of the course, showcasing their talent and abilities.

MDS007 Fit Dance
Students will be taught high-impact and/or energetic dance disciplines that require them to move vigorously. Through dance, they will not only build stamina but also improve on their flexibility and strength. Furthermore, through introducing Afro-Caribbean dances, students are also given an opportunity to learn about the cultures of the Caribbean.

DES001 Dance Reflections
Using notions of images in the mind to stimulate physiology and neuromuscular behaviour of the body in dance.

DES002 Dance of Joy
Learning safe and correct techniques of jazz leaps, turns and tumbles to express the joy of dance.

DES003 Spirit of Dance
This programme introduce students learning how emotions can be expressed physically thru different dance forms.

Fusion

FS001 Dance Buffet
Students will learn and appreciate various forms of dances ranging from World dance, classical dance to cultural dance. They will experience basic dance steps of the different style of dance.

 

 

FS002 Funk Asia
Students will be introduced to the cultures and traditions of the various ethnicities in Asia through the traditional dances. Students will also learn a contemporary dance discipline such as Jazz or Hip Hop and fuse these disparate dances together. In doing so, students are taught not only to appreciate the diversity of cultures and dances from across the region and across time but to also instruct students on the importance of being flexible and adaptable.

FS003 Dance Factory
Students will be taught the basics of various dance discipline such as Jazz and Hip Hop.
Students will also be taught key performance skills such as lines, projection, energy, stage usage and awareness and audience awareness. Students will then be challenged to combine and apply what they’ve learnt in both disciplines in a dance performance. They will also work towards creating original dance choreography in groups.

FS004 Bollywood Fusion
The objective of this programme is to introduce students to the energetic and fun dances commonly found in Bollywood movies. Students will learn about teamwork and also build up their stamina with the many high energy moves used in Bhangra dances.

FS005 Ethnic Fusion
This is a programme that infuse element of ethnic dance and music creation. Students will be introduced to the style of various ethnic dance in Asia. They will then learn how to create exciting an ethnic piece of music and rhythmic beats! Combing music and dance, students will work towards dance choreography for a performance.
