Sculpting Series

S001 Wirefest (NAC-AEP)
Using the art and form of sculpting with galvanised wire, students will learn about form and shape, conceptualization and perception, moulding and modelling with hands. Through the entire creative process, they will discover and appreciate how imagination can be realized with the sculptural art form. They will create objects such as experimental aesthetic sculptures, jewellery and realistic models.

S002 Clay Art
Students will study the history and functions of Clay Art., and experience using different types of clay such as refined natural clay, paper clay and jumping clay as well as forming methods such as wedging, kneading and reclaiming. They will also be exposed to the elements and principles of design that include shape, form, colour, texture and pattern, that they will apply in their final projects.

S003 Mask Making
This programme encourages an appreciation of historical mask making and its significant contributions to culture and religion. Students will be guided in building masks using elements of tribal mask making such as colours, size, materials and representations of animals or mythical creatures. Students will design and develop masks by applying elements and principles of art and design. Finally, they are encouraged to use recycled materials to achieve a masterpiece.

S004 Rope Art
In this programme, students will explore the thousand-year-old art of knotting. They will learn how to tie several survival knots and various knotting techniques such as coiling, tying, wrapping and weaving. In the process of creating an art piece, they will apply the fundamental principles of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs.

 

S005 Tape Sculpture
Tape sculpture uses both adhesive and packing tape to make sculpture casts of objects such as toys, household appliances, or even oneself. This programme allows students to learn tape casting and quick sculpting processes. A good alternative to paper mache, students will be guided in a step-by-step construction technique to create a life-size tape sculpture.

S006 The Toy Maker
Toy making started out as an art form, and is the new wave of today’s artistic world. Many toys have achieved collector status and have found stardom on collectors’ shelves and in display cabinets. Although students will not be able fashion toys into resin models, they are able to use available materials to produce toys, limited only by their imagination.

S007 Ceramics
Clay is a versatile medium that works to simulate just about any other material. Any desired colour or effects such as smooth, dry, shiny or textured can be applied to its surface to give the visual textured quality. The pliability of clay allows endless use of form, shape and surface treatment. Students will learn the importance of various clay work and firing techniques implementing elements and principles of art and design to
their creative discovery.

S008 Metal Tooling
Students will learn to appreciate the art of metal tooling, its historical background and contribution to arts and industrial application. They will learn about the various materials, safety procedures, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional formations and techniques involved in tooling art. Students will also be encouraged to use the elements and principles of design in their projects and appreciate the beauty of fine and abstract
art.

S009 Paper Cutting
This workshop lead students to better understand the history of paper cutting, practiced by different cultures from Europe to China. Students will master traditional techniques using symmetrical design and cutting processes, developing basic 2-dimensional art into 3-dimensional lamps or lantern design. Finally, students are encouraged to add contemporary style to their projects.

S010 Foil Sculpture
Modern metal foils such as aluminium and copper are the preferred mediums for creative art pieces for display and decoration. In this project-based programme, students will learn the art of using foils for 2- and 3-dimesional art and using translucent colouring and layering techniques.
